The six essential scale are: Blues, Major Pentatonic, Mixolydian, Dorian, Aeolian, and Ionian.
There are two scales that can be the memorized and all other essential scales referenced from these two. These two scales are the Major and Natural Minor scales. The Major and Natural Minor scales are traditional scales and common scales in all forms of contemporary music. This lesson explores the Major and Natural Minor scales and their derivations.
From these two scales the Blues, Major Pentatonic, Mixolydiand and Dorian scale can be created.

Blue Bossa

Blue Bossa is an instrumental jazz composition by Kenny Dorham (August 30, 1924 – December 5, 1972). It was introduced on Joe Henderson's 1963 album Page One. A blend of hard bop and bossa nova, the tune was possibly influenced by Dorham's visit to the Rio de Janeiro Jazz Festival in 1961. The tune has since been recorded numerous times by different artists, making it a jazz standard.

Autumn Leaves
(from WidipediA)Autumn Leaves is a much-recorded popular song. Originally it was a 1945 French song "Les Feuilles mortes" (literally "The Dead Leaves") with music by Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert. Yves Montand (with Irène Joachim) introduced "Les feuilles mortes" in 1946 in the film Les Portes de la Nuit. The American songwriter Johnny Mercer wrote English lyrics in 1947 and Jo Stafford was among the first to perform this version. Autumn Leaves became a pop standard and a jazz standard in both languages and both as an instrumental and with a singer.
On December 24, 1950, French singer Edith Piaf rendered both French and English versions of this song on the radio programme The Big Show, hosted by Tallulah Bankhead.

As a “jazz” standard Autumn Leaves uses 4-part contemporary, a.k.a "jazz" chords. Autumn Leaves uses a wider range of chords than your typical rock, pop or folk song. You'll definitely need to venture beyond the third fret of your instrument to play this arrangement.
When venturing in solo ukulele and “jazz” chords, a core set of chords and a solid foundation on how chords are constructed is needed to be successful.
How I Learned these “Jazz” Chords... Learning these more advanced chords doesn't take some mythical secret knowledge. All it takes is knowing how chords are created - where they come from. I learned them over many years. Using the information I ultimately put down in my book A Guide to Advanced Chords for Ukulele. Study how to make any chord you will ever need to play using the tried and true chord formulas that the pros use. They're all in this book.

Core Chords is a series of lessons for building your 4-part chords. These chords commonly called jazz chords, are really just 4-part chords used in a wide range of musical styles.
The Big Six chords include: Seventh 7, Major Seventh maj7, Minor Seventh m7, Half Diminished Seventh or Minor Seven Flat Five diminished 7 (m7b5), Diminished Seventh o7 and Augmented Seventh +7. These six chords form a core set of chords.

Midnight at the Jazz Cafe
This is not a CD that attempts to assault the listener with ego or insistent playing. Rather, it is an album that clearly realizes the beauty of the melodies of each tune played. Tunes like “There Will Never be Another You”, “Black Orpheus”, “My Favorite Things”, “Milestones”, “Autumn Leaves”, “So What”, “Cute” and other standards, are performed with deference to the musical statements that can be found within the harmonic and melodic content of each tune, as are the two original tunes written by Sheller: “Kelle Belle” and “Midnight Café”. In other words, there is some nice playing going on here.
Sheller’s single line playing is smooth and straightforward with an effortless quality that can only be portrayed by someone who has been playing and listening for some time. And his chordal work is skillful with fat sounding voicings that work very well in this trio setting. Just check out the gorgeous chordal arrangement Sheller comes up with on the original tune “Woman Child” (written by producer Chuck Anderson). Very nice indeed.
The remaining members, Daoud Shaw on drums and Steve Beskrone on electric bass, complement Sheller’s playing by providing a strong rhythmic foundation for Sheller to play off of. However, Beskrone gets off some nice solos on a few tunes showing that he can grab the spotlight when need be.
Overall, this is a very nice CD to have in your collection and I look forward to hopefully more Midnight visits to the Jazz Cafe. ( review from JazzGuitarLife.com )
