There are two scales that can be the memorized and all other essential scales referenced from these two. These two scales are the Major and Natural Minor scales. The Major and Natural Minor scales are traditional scales and common scales in all forms of contemporary music. This lesson explores the Major and Natural Minor scales and their derivations.
From these two scales the Blues, Major Pentatonic, Mixolydiand and Dorian scale can be created.

Blue Bossa

Blue Bossa is an instrumental jazz composition by Kenny Dorham (August 30, 1924 – December 5, 1972). It was introduced on Joe Henderson's 1963 album Page One. A blend of hard bop and bossa nova, the tune was possibly influenced by Dorham's visit to the Rio de Janeiro Jazz Festival in 1961. The tune has since been recorded numerous times by different artists, making it a jazz standard.

Black Orpheus Black Orpheus (Portuguese: Orfeu Negro) is a 1959 film made in Brazil by French director Marcel Camus. It is based on the play Orfeu da Conceição by Vinicius de Moraes, which is an adaptation of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice, setting it in the modern context of a favela in Rio de Janeiro during the Carnaval. The film was an international co-production between production companies in Brazil, France and Italy.
The film is particularly renowned for its soundtrack by bossa nova legend Antônio Carlos Jobim, featuring songs such as "Manhã de Carnaval" (written by Luiz Bonfá) and "A felicidade" that were to become bossa nova classics.
Black Orpheus won the Palme d'Or at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival as well as the 1960 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the 1960 Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Film (in those awards the film was credited as a French production; only in the 1961 BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Language Film was Brazil credited together with France and Italy).
Large tracks of the film were shot in the Morro da Babilônia, a favela in the Leme neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro. In 1999, the film was essentially remade as Orfeu by Carlos Diegues, this time with a soundtrack featuring Brazilian singer-songwriter Caetano Veloso.

The Dm, Dm7, Dm6, Dm/maj7 chord sequence is best played when only the one voicing in the chord descends, the D, C#, C, to B voice on string four in this chord sequence.

On instruments that are capable of voicing teh Dm, Dm7, Dm6, Dm/maj7 chords with more of a bass note as the lowest note of the chord, might see the chords written as: Dm, Dm/C♯, Dm/C, Dm/B. This insures the playing the chords will/should voice their chords with the descending line in the chord as the lowest note.

Recommended and Alternate Chord Fingerings
Fingerings are not shown. Any fingering would only be a recommended fingering and not mandatory. For many chords there are alternate fingerings, with any particular fingering dependent how the chord is being used in relationship to its previous chord and the next chord.

What Are Slash Chords?
Slash chords are chord indications where the composer or arranger wants a particular note as the lowest note of a chord voicing.
Slash chord notation is indicated by the chord name, followed by a slash and ANY other single note.
Slash chords typically are part of an ascending or descending bass part of the chord.
On instruments capable of a wider range of notes for selecting their chord voicings, actually complying with those wishes is possible. For the ukulele, it's not always possible. A lot of times those lower bass notes covered by a piano, guitar or bass - if present.
For ukuleles in the common rentrant tuning you can pretty much play the chord, not worrying about the particular voicing.

This song modulates through several keys and uses 4-part jazz chords as its core chords.
With a song this complex you really need to have a firm foundation in the core chords that make up the jazz ukulele chord vocabulary.

Core Chords is a series of lessons for building your 4-part chords. These chords commonly called jazz chords, are really just 4-part chords used in a wide range of musical styles.
The Big Six chords include: Seventh 7, Major Seventh maj7, Minor Seventh m7, Half Diminished Seventh or Minor Seven Flat Five diminished 7 (m7b5), Diminished Seventh o7 and Augmented Seventh +7. These six chords form a core set of chords.
